Bangladesh, Pakistan jute trade moves forward with stronger bilateral engagement
The interest was expressed by Asim Azim Siddiqui, Chairman of the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), during a meeting held in Dhaka on June 29 with Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Textiles & Jute, at the Ministry of Industries.
During the meeting, Siddiqui said Pakistan is looking to import more high-quality Bangladeshi jute and jute products to meet growing domestic demand. According to him, a stronger Bangladesh-Pakistan jute trade would create business opportunities for both countries.
Welcoming the proposal, Khandakar Abdul Muktadir said stronger trade relations would support sustainable economic growth in both countries. He added that closer cooperation between the public and private sectors could open new opportunities for investment, industrial collaboration, and Bangladesh-Pakistan jute trade.
One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the announcement that a Memorandum of Understanding between the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) and the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has reached its final stage. The agreement is expected to be signed in the first week of July. It will support government-to-government food trade and strengthen commercial cooperation between the two countries.
Both countries agreed to reactivate the Bangladesh-Pakistan Joint Working Group, exchange business delegations, and expand cooperation in the agriculture and industrial sectors. These initiatives are expected to further strengthen Bangladesh-Pakistan jute trade and broader bilateral economic relations.
