In 2024, the Bosphorus, a crucial maritime passage through Istanbul connecting to the Black Sea, saw 41,300 vessels navigate its waters.
This represents a growth of 6% from the previous year, during which it achieved a notable 11% increase from 2022 levels.
The majority of these ships were general cargo vessels, constituting 37% of the total traffic, though their numbers remained relatively stable. Container ships accounted for 9% of the traffic, with a modest increase of 5% to 3,533 ships.
Ro/Ro vessels increased by 14%, while car carriers tripled. Additionally, there was a handful of conventional reefers that transited through the Bosphorus.
