JICA, JFTC support policy reforms for fair trade in Sri Lanka
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) have expressed support for policy reforms and institutional enhancements to ensure the supply of high-quality goods and services in Sri Lanka while protecting both consumers and producers.
This was discussed at a meeting held yesterday (March 12) at the Presidential Secretariat with representatives of JICA, JFTC, and Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
During the discussion, the representatives emphasized that ensuring fairness in trade would safeguard both consumers and producers while fostering a competitive market. They also highlighted Japan’s competitive trade policies, explaining how such measures contributed to economic progress by protecting consumer rights and stimulating innovation.
Secretary to the President stated that this year’s budget has prioritized policy adjustments to promote fair trade and elevate Sri Lanka’s market. He also briefed the representatives on the planned reforms.
The meeting was attended by Senior Additional Secretary to the President, Russell Aponsu, along with JICA representatives Tetsuya Yamada, Arisa Inada, Yuri Horita, and Namal Ralapanawa, as well as JFTC representatives Y. Sakuma, Y. Asahina, Y. Fukushima, and M. Takeuchi.
